Accomplish Your Life Goals in 4 Steps

“Pay attention!!” the teacher screamed. “You’re not going to know what to do if you don’t focus!”

How often have you heard a teacher say those words? It’s not just for the student in the classroom anymore. That statement is for anyone who wants to live a fulfilling life. We need to pay attention to our lives on a daily basis.

What am I doing? Why am I doing it? Am I working towards my life’s goals? How do I achieve my dream life. Every answer comes when you ‘pay attention’ to what is going on in you and around you. I have learned four ways to help me remain focused on my dreams (great or small) until I see them come to life. Let them work for you, too.

1. Write a Non-Negotiable Statement. I, (your name) will accomplish the following life goals…….. Your list can be from 1 to 100 or more. It’s your non-negotiable statement. This is what you must have or want to fulfill your mission in life.

2. Write a Life Plan. To get focused about your life, you need a plan. Anyone who knows anything about traveling is that you have to know where you’re going. Don’t leave your life to chance or happenstance. Plan it. That’s right. Plan it on purpose. You know what you want, so why not get detailed about it and write it out. Put the life you see in your mind on paper. Once you do this, your mind will become clear. You will be able to see where you are and what you need to do to get to your future destination. Michael Hyatt’s ebook, Creating Your Personal Life Plan walks you through writing your own personal life plan. You can get it here for free!

3. Confess Your Plan. Now that you know what you want to accomplish…speak it out loud and reaffirm it in the atmosphere. Your dream becomes alive to you when you hear your own voice speak it. You can have what you say. It really is that simple. You can speak life or death to any situation with your tongue. Let your words work for you. The more you speak it the more your mind will focus on your dreams. When you are focused, you begin to take action to make your dreams come true.

4. Check Your Progress. You have your plan, you are reaffirming your plan by confessing what you believe, now, keep up with your achievements by keeping a progress report. Did you complete the novel by the due date you set? Did you write one article a week according to your plan? Whatever the task accomplished, you should record it to see how far you’ve come.

Remember, staying focus is not hard when you know exactly what you want to achieve. Your life goals are important, make them a priority, write your plan, confess your plan and you will undeniably see progress.

Book of the Week: FEARLESS by Max Lucado

Join us for Week #2 of the The Gospel Writer’s BookCLUB – Learn to free yourself, achieve your goals and live the life you were meant to live.

Our book of the week is FEARLESS by Max Lucado.

Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear.

They’re talking layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, flare-ups in the Middle East, turnovers at headquarters, downturns in the housing market, upswings in global warming. The plague of our day, terrorism, begins with the word terror. Fear, it seems, has taken up a hundred-year lease on the building next door and set up shop. Oversized and rude, fear herds us into a prison of unlocked doors. Wouldn’t it be great to walk out?

Imagine your life, wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could hover a fear magnet over your heart and extract every last shaving of dread, insecurity, or doubt, what would remain? Envision a day, just one day, where you could trust more and fear less.

Can you imagine your life without fear?

4 Things Information Marketers Know that Writers Don’t

Did you know that Information Marketers and Writers have a lot in common. So, much so that they can actually be the same person. Information Marketers promote products or information to a particular group of people or a niche in the market place. They specifically target this group to help solve their problems with their products.

Writers on the other hand, write often in the same genre for a particular group of people. Lately, I have noticed that although Information Marketers and Writers are similar, Information Marketers usually have a greater understanding of the business end of writing and tend to make a greater profit from their writing in comparison to the traditional writer waiting to be published.

I’ve discovered four things from Information Marketers that has changed who I am and what I do as a writer.

1. Content is KING. Yes, as writers we know that good writing is expected but we don’t know how valuable the content is. As writers we often focus on the editing part of writing – Is it perfect? Do I have any grammar mistakes? Information Marketers want their copy to be grammatically correct but more importantly they are not stuck on the logistics. They know that high value content outweighs a grammar mistake or two. Their goal is to get information to their readers and clients in an efficient manner.

TIP: Don’t be so busy crossing the i’s and the t’s that you make the mistake and not produce something that is of value to the reader.

2. Timing is EVERYTHING.  So, you have a good idea. In fact, it’s a great idea that can solve a problem for thousands of people. What do writers do? We begin an outline, get our thoughts together and then we see if we shop it around to an agent or publishing house for possible publication next year! Information Marketers know that timing is essential to the life of a product and it’s viability in the market place. If you’re writing a book for first year teachers, you don’t want that book to come out in June. You have to recognize when it is time to act fast. As writers we get caught up in someone publishing our material, but we need to consider our timing. Our sole purpose is to help our readers. If our information is consistently delayed in the market place it can significantly lower our profit and our visibility.

TIP: Traditional Publishing is not always the best route – especially when you have a time sensitive idea that can solve a problem in the market place.

3. It’s not personal; It’s BUSINESS. Writers carry our work in our hearts. We don’t want to change our stories. We want our words to remain our words; besides we are the writer. Information Marketers know differently. Writing is a business. It’s a process of gathering information for the reader in a way that they can understand quickly. It’s not personal, it’s business. If a sentence has to be changed for clarity; they change it. If the theme of the book or product needs revising; they revise it for the better. As writer we need to take our feelings out of it and write from a business end. Your goal is to see your work in print and reach the masses. Don’t be so close to your writing that you can’t see how to profit from it. Your gift should support your livelihood.

TIP: It’s okay to make an income from your writing.

4. Validation is relevant but not IMPORTANT. Often writers seek validation of their peers. They can’t submit an article without someone taking a look at it and approving it. Writers crave validation of their work. Information Marketers usually do not. Information Marketers are confident and believe that their past experiences and/or research validates their information. Can it be a gamble? At times, but it is much more profitable and rewarding to complete and promote your work without the pain and rejection of another who may not truly understand your vision.

TIP: Don’t get caught up in what other people think about your work. Follow your vision.

Tips for using Twitter to Market your Articles

Marketing your articles is a must when you’re building trust with your market. If you don’t show them you write, they won’t see it. There are a number of ways to market your articles, but you must use them correctly or they won’t work.

One of the best ways to market your articles and grow your business is to use Twitter. Twitter is growing in popularity and more and more people and businesses are using it every day to communicate with others. This is why you need to use it for not only your business, but for your articles as well.

Some of the article directories you’d submit your articles to have the ability to post your article as soon as it’s approved. This is a great service and one you should take advantage of simply because the more time you will have to write, the more articles you’ll be able to submit.

There are directories that don’t offer this automatic post to Twitter, so you’ll need to do this yourself. You can either post the link with a brief description or the title or some have social media buttons you can use to do this for you. When you make these posts yourself make sure you add the title of your article and if you have room, give a brief description of the article. That way your followers will know what they’re going to read.

Article marketing is a valuable tool to use no matter what you’re trying to promote. It’s a way for people to see that you’re real, you care about others, and you can be trusted. When you promote your articles through Twitter, your exposure will increase and that will help you build trust with your followers.

5 Ways to Enhance your Writing Career

I don’t know about you, but are you ever amazed by people who are living their dream life? Do you think, “How did they do it?” I know I used to ask that question all the time until I realized that I needed to ask myself a different question.

“Wanza, why are you NOT living your dream life?” It was a hard question to ask myself. It was even harder to answer. Truthfully, my answer was lame…I had no real answer except that I had never really tried to live the life of my dreams.

I didn’t have a plan. I didn’t have a strategy in place that would lead me to living life differently. Amazingly, once I began asking myself questions, I began seeking for answers. Thankfully, the answers began to come.

I’d like to share with you 5 ways that I am using to enhance my writing career which in turn is allowing me to begin living the life of my dreams.

  1. Take Advantage. If you’re just starting out or if you’re an advanced writer you should take advantage of other people’s knowledge and expertise. There is a plethora of resources available to writers through blogs, books, eBooks and professional courses. I recently heard that “experience is not necessarily the best teacher.” Why go through continuous failure or less than great success when you can learn from other people’s experiences? There is no law that says you have to learn the hard way by doing it all by yourself. Get what you need…and don’t feel bad about it!

  1. Take Action. Stop sitting on the sidelines and simply write, write and then write some more. Then publish what you’ve written. Make a goal. Set a deadline and keep it. Don’t expect someone to do it for you. It’s your life; you have to make it happen. What do you have to lose? Why have the gift of words that can change lives and not make more of it?

  1. Take Alternatives. Have you tried your hand at writing in a different genre? Have you considered becoming a freelance writer while you’re finishing your book? It’s time to leave the traditional route and achieve your goals. Don’t be scared of the unknown. Take a different route to publication. Write in another genre. Be brave. You’ll never know what you can do until you try it.

  1. Take Agony. In this business rejection comes in all forms – from agents to family to your best friend who doesn’t like the ending of your new book. Take it lightly. Rejection is not a personal reflection on you. Get in the habit of learning from every rejection. Use it to propel you to another level in your career.

  1. Take Acceptance. It’s time to get to know you as a writer. Don’t look to the left or to the right. Stop glancing at your colleagues web pages wishing you had thought of that “idea” first. Just be you. You are creative, talented and chosen by God to write words that change lives, impart hope, and make readers smile while they fall asleep reading your book because it was too good to stop.

It’s time to multiply your writing. Value the gift that is within you and go for it.

WHY I didn’t write for 10 years…

Excuses…excuses…excuses…

That’s what some experts say you have when you don’t write – you have ‘excuses’.

I don’t think it is excuses at all.

I think it’s a little thing we all call “life“.

LIFE HAPPENS…

I know it did for me. In the last 10 years…my life took over
  • I moved back to Brooklyn, NY (after an 8 year stint in Philadelphia)
  • Started a career in teaching.
  • Got engaged.
  • Got married.
  • Change church memberships – went to the hubby’s church.
  • Became the President of Media at my new church.
  • Was appointed Assistant Church Administrator and the Adjutant/Assistant to the First Lady. (If it was going on at church, I knew it and did it.)
  • Lost my job and career in teaching due to new city laws. (Thanks to our new Mayor)
  • Opened a group family daycare with my family and became the on-site supervisor.
  • Had 2 children – and one miscarriage – after three years of the doctors telling me I couldn’t have kids.
  • Completed my Master’s Degree in Education.
  • Completed 2 years of Bible School.

Need I say more…? I don’t think the last 10 years were spent making excuses but I would say that I let ‘life’ take over without me having a say in it all.

Although, everything I did in the past few years were worthwhile, I realized that I had not accomplished what I set out to do.

WRITE. PUBLISH MY NEXT BOOK. HAVE A WRITING CAREER.

In my heart, I knew God wanted me to write but I didn’t know how to do it. I didn’t know how to get my ‘life’ to the point where I could handle it and have time to build a writing career.

Then I made a series of simple, yet life changing decisions…and my writing life improved dramatically.

Take a sneak peek at my new report, Life Happens…Write Anyway! where I give you the #1 reason why you’re not writing – and it’s not because you don’t have time.

Here’s your sneak peek:  http://wp.me/p1kxun-bV
